Superswell 47B is recommended for use in non-movement joints eg horizontal construction joints between floor slabs and cast in situ walls such as lift overrun pits, retaining walls and similar. Advantages „ Requires no site welding „ Easy to handle „ Conforms easily to irregular surfaces „ Does not require split-forming or splicing „ Superswell 47B is non-toxic and requires no special handling instructions Description Superswell 47B is a high expansion Butyl Bentonite based hydrophilic waterstop suitable for non-movement construction joints where it is fully contained within the joint. Its volumetric expansion (1.6 times) occurs in all directions and therefore containment is critical. When fully immersed in water, swelling commences within 2 days and reaches full expansion in approximately 10 days, thus placement and concrete cover time is critical in inclement weather conditions. Design Criteria For the best results it is recommended that a relatively smooth surface be provided along the line of the Superswell 47B strip however a moderate amount of irregularity can be accommodated. Always ensure that there is a minimum of 50 mm cover from the edge of the concrete to the face of the Superswell 47B. Properties Form: Pliable mastic strip Colour: Black Expansion (total 1.6 times original volume unrestrained) 28 days exposure in water: Hydrostatic head pressure: 344.5 kPa (34m head (depending on joint configuration) Specific gravity ASTM D-71: 1.40 (±5) Volatile content ASTM D-6: 1% max Penetration cone ASTM 40 ±5 C217: Service temperature range: - 34°C to 82°C Application Instructions Carefully brush off all loose dust and dirt and apply a coat of Emer-Proof Self Adhesive Primer to the area where the Superswell 47B is to be placed. Allow the primer to become tacky (approx.15 minutes @ 25°C). Using moderate hand pressure, press a continuous bead of Superswell 47B firmly into position. Check to be certain that the sealant has bonded to the primed area. Peel the protective backing from the exposed side of the Superswell 47B. Knead the overlapped ends together to form a continuous, uninterrupted gasket. Placement of concrete can proceed as soon as sufficient bond of the Superswell 47B to the concrete has occurred. Care should be taken not to displace the Superswell 47B during this process. Limitations Contaminants in water or immersion in sea water can affect the amount of swelling achieved in site conditions. Estimating Profile Sizes 25 mm x 19 mm (Rectangular Shape) 6 x 5 metre rolls per box Box weight: 22 kg 12 mm x 12 mm x 19 mm (Trapezoidal Shape) 8 x 7.5 metre rolls per box Box weight: 17 kg Storage Superswell 47B must be stored in cool dry places. Any left over from site usage should be immediately returned to the original box and stored as above. Shelf Life 12 months when stored in condition described above. May 2011
