In order to obtain neat straight-edged seals, the joint edges may be masked with self-adhesive tape. Priming To ensure optimum adhesion, joint faces should be primed with Primer 13, a two part epoxy primer. Mix the two components together thoroughly (pot life 1 hour). Brush apply and leave until touch dry (approx. 30 minutes) and not more than 8 hours before applying Nitoseal 280. Mixing The three components of Nitoseal 280 are supplied in the correct mixing proportions. The entire contents of the hardener should be poured into the base tin and two materials should be thoroughly mixed together for 2 minutes using a mixing paddle fitted to a slow speed (400/500 rpm) electric drill. Add the colour pack and continue mixing for a further 2 - 3 minutes. Ensure any settlement is thoroughly dispersed. The inside of the tine should then be scraped with a flat bladed tool, to ensure that unmixed components do not remain around the sides. Mixing shall then be continued for a further 3 minutes until all material is totally homogeneous. Incorrect mixing can adversely affect cure and final properties. Normal mixing time 7 - 8 minutes. Application After thoroughly mixing, the material can be poured directly into the prepared joint to the required level. With narrow joints, it may be more desirable to pour the material into a barrel gun and then apply into the prepared joint. It may be necessary after a few minutes to top up the level of the Nitoseal 280, after it has flowed into all joint irregularities. Cleaning Uncured Nitoseal 280 can be cleaned off with Solvent 10. Cured Nitoseal 280 can only be removed mechanically. Estimating Supply Nitoseal 280 Supplied as a 2 component pack of base resin and hardener. Colour pack must be purchased separately (Durafloor colour pack). All three components mix to a total 4 litres Primer 13 250 ml two component pack Quantities Nitoseal 280 Number of litres required = Joint width (mm) x sealant depth (mm) x joint length (m) 1000 1 litre of Primer 13 is typically required for each 30 litres of Nitoseal 280, depending on profile and substrate porosity. Storage At least 12 months in original unopened containers if stored in a cool dry place.
