Where surfaces are in any way contaminated, wipe non-porous surfaces with a clean rag and a solvent such as Solvent 10. Porous surfaces may be lightly abraded with a wire brush then brushed clean. Application Cut cartridge nozzle to suitable size and angle, puncture membrane, fit into gun, and apply to surface. For lap joints, best results are achieved by applying Ductseal SB to the joint surface prior to combining the assembly, and then pop-riveting through the sealant to mechanically fasten the joint. Ductseal SB may also be applied over lap joints and into cracks or small joints. Where necessary, ensure sealant adequately contacts all surfaces by brushing or tooling the bead into corners, crevices, etc. Ductseal SB can also be used as an adhesive to hold surfaces together. For wet bonds, apply Ductseal SB to one surface, bring surfaces together and use permanent or temporary mechanical fastenings to hold components together for at least 24 hours. To make wet bonds, at least one component of the assembly must be porous to allow solvent to escape. As a contact adhesive, Ductseal SB is applied to both surfaces and all solvent allowed to evaporate (this takes from 5 - 30 minutes, dependent on spread, surface porosity, ambient conditions, etc.) then combine the components in the correct alignment. Apply pressure to the bonded area by hand, or use hammer and wood block, etc. Note: some plastics and some surface coatings may be affected by the organic solvents used in Ductseal SB. Where any doubt exists of surface susceptibility to solvents, we recommend initial testing. Painting Ductseal SB may be painted if required, once the surface is dry. Most conventional paints may be used. Estimating Packaging Ductseal SB is supplied in 300 ml cartridges, packed 25 to a carton. Coverage As a guide, one cartridge of Ductseal SB applied as a bead of 3 mm diameter will provide 42 metres of sealing. Storage 12 months in original container stored in cool, dry conditions. Description Ductseal SB is a fast drying sealant based on a blend of synthetic elastomers and resins. Ductseal SB may be used as a general purpose adhesive sealant for metal lap joints, and is also suitable for glass, timber, masonry and most other building and engineering components. Ductseal SB is most commonly used in lap jointing and small joint sealing applications. Ductseal SB is not normally used in joints wider than 3 mm.
