Suitable as a shop primer due to its quick drying, outstanding adhesion, good resistance to corrosion and the absence of health and fire hazards. Emer-Bond is also suitable for use as a primer over the Index bitumen torch applied membrane range of products. Once the Emer-Bond primer has fully dried on the bituminous sheet; a waterborne finish, such as Emer-Clad can be applied as a decorative finish coat or as a combined Emer-Clad and Sontara Tape liquid bandage termination detail: see Technical Service Drawing W-ISD22 within Parchem CAD drawings. Description Emer-Bond is a water based vinyl acrylic anti-corrosive primer offering outstanding protection against corrosion which is enhanced by its low permeability to water and air. Emer-Bond is quick drying, can be applied under conditions of high humidity and designed to be overcoated with water based coatings. Emer-Bond is an ideal priming/bond coat for galvanised iron, zincalume or other non-ferrous surfaces as well as steelwork. Emer-Bond is also suitable as a primer over the Index bituminous torch applied membrane range of products, prior to the application of a waterborne coating / finish, such as Emer-Clad. INDEX 208 Technical Data Sheet 75 microns 30 microns (25°C, 50% RH) 30 minutes 2 hours 7 days Application Instructions Surface preparation Before using Emer-Bond, it is important to ensure that the surface to which it is to be applied is clean, dry and free from rust, scale, dust and any loose material. All contaminants such as oil, grease, fungi, or any surface laitance must be removed to ensure adequate development of bond when the coating is applied. For optimum performance steel surfaces to be abrasive blast cleaned in accordance with AS1627.4 Class 2. Alternatively surfaces to be hand or power tool cleaned, these should be carried out with care to ensure surfaces are not burnished. For heavily corroded areas needle gun or similar method may be necessary prior to hand cleaning, treat any remaining rust with Emer-Tan, prior to application of the Emer-Bond. Non ferrous metals to be cleaned and etched with Emer- Clean. Application Emer-Bond may be applied by brush, roller or dipping. For spray application up to 15% thinning with fresh, clean water may be necessary. It has sufficient conductivity to allow application by electrostatic spray. The primer will be touch dry in approximately 30 minutes and may be overcoated after 2 hours drying with waterborne finishes under normal conditions. This can be assessed at the time of application and in influenced by ambient temperature and type of surface treated. Note: do not apply at temperatures below or may fall below 10°C during the drying period. Storage Shelf life Emer-Bond has a shelf life of 12 months if kept in a dry store between 5°C and 30°C in the original, unopened containers. April 2013
