Any damage identified during normal inspections should be repaired or replaced as appropriate. Application Instructions Surface preparation All surfaces to be cleaned free of dirt, grease, oil or other contamination prior to the application of Emer-Clean. Steel surfaces to be hand or power tool cleaned to remove all loose scale, flaky rust or other contamination. On heavily corroded areas needle gun or similar method may be necessary to remove heavy rust build prior to hand cleaning. Pre-painted surfaces to be scraped and sanded to remove any loosely adhering coatings and feathered back to a firmly adhering edge. Previously painted surfaces to be thoroughly sanded and all damaged edges feathered back into the remaining sound coating. Application Emer-Clean may be applied by two simple methods: Wipe On - Rinse Off: Mix one part Emer-Clean with two parts fresh, clean water. Apply liberally to the surface by brush, scouring pad or cloth and allow to react for several minutes. Rinse with fresh water or wipe off with clean wet cloths - removal of residues to be undertaken before the Emer-Clean solution has completely dried. Immersion (for process work): Dilute one part Emer-Clean with one part fresh, clean water. Immerse all surfaces to be treated and allow to stand for 15-30 minutes before rinsing with fresh clean hot water or wipe dry. All metal surfaces etched with Emer-Clean to be coated within 24 hours of the application, and in any event prior to any surface contamination occurring. Note:- Emer-Clean contains acid. Store in plastic, rubber lined, glass or stainless steel containers. Rubber gloves are recommended for extended use. Cleaning Tools and equipment should be cleaned with water immediately after use. 203 Emer-Clean General purpose, phosphoric acid based metal cleaner Uses As a surface pre-treatment for aluminium, zincalume and galvanised iron roofs and gutters, sheet metal work, railings etc. To remove surface “bloom rust” from abrasive blast cleaned steelwork. For the removal of verdigris contamination from brass and copper, and the removal of oxidation products from gelcoated boats, caravans etc. Steel surfaces treated with Emer-Clean can be welded, coated, galvanised or chromed. For application in special conditions, consult the manufacturer for detailed information. Advantages „ Treated surfaces can be welded, coated, galvanised or chromed „ Ideal for preparing new galvanised surfaces for painting „ Results in a flat grey finish Description Emer-Clean is a solution of phosphoric acid, solvent and surfactant which will remove surface rust and leave a phosphate film on steel.
