1 2 Melissa Blair riding Phantom Stealth was out first in the final round of the Category A Challenge. They were clear jumping but had three time penalties finishing the class with a total of 18 penalties. Emma Hughes was clear within the time with Emmaville Charisma, finishing with zero penalties. Melissa Blair returned to the ring a few riders later and repeated her ride of zero jumping penalties but picked up three time with Flying Teddy. Kathleen Seah added nothing to her penalties from the first round with He’s The One. Neither did Amanda Leyshan riding Emmavile Spice, Martin Gostelow on Classico, Melissa Turner on Beach Chick, Jodie White on Whiskey Jim or Nathan Carswell on Cool Customer. Nathan’s time was one of the fastest and earnt him fifth place in the day’s Cat A class and second place overall in the Australian leg of the FEI World Challenge Category A for Amateur Riders. Bonnie Martin rode another perfect round on both Dyranta R and RR Triple X with Dyranta’s time of 53.96 seconds giving her victory and the FEI Category A Overall title. Triple X was second in the class, Emma Hughes third in both the class and the FEI Challenge and Jodie White was fourth in the class. The huge smile on Bonnie’s face during the presentation is probably still there! The FEI Category B class sponsored by Mittagong Saddleworld was also run over four rounds. On Saturday eight riders carried zero penalties into the second round. Nicole Poetsch was the first of these out in the second round and posted another clear on Skyblitz in a great time of 67.74 seconds. Sarah Dreverman and Emmaville Mosaic took nearly 8 seconds off this time to move into the lead but they didn’t stay there long with Ella Avery following them into the ring and shaving another 2 seconds off with Yalambi Ultimate V. Rose Read, more used to eventing courses, was clear but added a time penalty to see her finish in fifth place. Mark Atkins added 8 penalties to his zero with an unfortunate two rails on Closing Time and the final rider, Alicia McMahon was clear but slower than Nicole to finish in fourth. Nicole was third, Sarah second and Ella claimed victory in day one of the FEI Category B World Challenge. A separate section was run at this height for riders also competing in Category A with the FEI ruling preventing them from also competing in the Category B section. This was made possible with sponsorship coming from The Galloping Groom and O’Brien Aluminium. Martin Gostelow took the best lines in the second round to finish with zero penalties in a time of 60.68 seconds on Uklarina to win the class. Clare Watkinson was just 0.12 seconds behind on The Love Bug to place 2nd. Sharon Beahan from The Galloping Groom was third on her beautifully clipped Falcon Mandrake. Melissa Turner was fourth on Melissa’s Choice and Alex Townsend was fifth on Vamoose. Steve Beahan from sponsor O’Brien’s Aluminium was on hand to present the winners in Category B as the sun set over the lovely equestrian grounds at Camden. Rounds 3 and 4 of the FEI World Challenge Category B class for Amateur riders followed the Category A class on Sunday’s Programme in Arena 1. The first rider in the class, Sarah Dreverman with the lovely Emmaville Mosaic, ultimately the winner completing two clear rounds in a great second round time of 50.46 seconds. Second placed Kate Edwards from Dubbo riding Happy Harry was four seconds slower in the second round. Third went to Zack Maher on Prediction and fourth went to Mark Atkins on Closing Time who was the last of the combinations to finish with zero penalties over Sunday’s two rounds. Ella Avery was the fastest of the four faulters on Yalambi UltimaV to finish in fifth place. Sarah Dreverman was awarded Champion in the FEI Amateur Category B Challenge, the only rider to have zero penalties over the four rounds. Ella Avery on Yalambi Ultima V was second and Kate Edwards on Happy Harry was third. The second division of the Amateur Category B competition on Sunday was a crowd pleaser. Three riders carried zero penalties through to the second round, Claire Watkinson on both her horses, Yandoo Mystique and The Love Bug, was joined by The Galloping Groom Sharon Beehan on Falcon Mandrake. Clare’s first horse knocked a rail adding four penalties to her score and putting her in third place. Sharon had the crowds on the edge of their seats with a great round on Falcon Mandrake, clear in a time of 59.64 seconds. Clare’s final ride, The Love Bug, rubbed a few rails, but they all stayed up in a time of 54.05 seconds giving her victory. Sharon second, Clare third, Bonnie Martin on Geographic M fourth and Martin Gostelow on Uklarina fifth. The final winner on Sunday in Arena 1 was Kirrily Mann riding Yandoo Aphrodite in the TopHorse.com 1.10m Open Height Class. Sammi Mainwaring from Team 78
