1 2 Another massive week for Sydney Eventing - July 18-19 and 21-22, 2012 Article by Rachel Smith Sydney Eventing managed to produce another back to back event in July with riders flocking to SIEC to enjoy everything that these events have to offer. John Twomey was a popular winner in the Over The Top Equipment 3* with his lovely horse Wade Equine Highly Recommended. John and Highly Recommended were placed well in third position after dressage behind Christine Bates on Corambo and Will Enzinger on Ruban Son. Cross Country Course Designer Ewan Kellet continued international designer Mike Etherington-Smith’s vision for Sydney and the new track lived up to expectations. It provided an excellent spectator course with much of the action featuring in the centre around the new water complex. Storm clouds rolling in didn’t deter crowds who were keen to watch the final phase of show jumping. Competitors entering the arena in reverse order ensured a thrilling finish and kept the pressure on right to the end. Every rider had faults on the challenging track built by John Vallance and time was certainly an issue. John’s lead into the final phase gave him plenty of room for error, but Highly Recommended only brought down one rail with the lightest of touches giving John victory by more than 10 penalties ahead of Rebel Morrow on Hillgrove Enviable. A number of the weekend 3* riders had already given their horses a run in the midweek Edinburgh Rugs 2* won by Tallara Barwick on A Horse Called Wanda. Jade Findlay’s double act of Bloomers Twinkletoes and Frontier Psychiatrist were seventh and eighth in the OTT 3* after Twinks finished second behind Tallara in the midweek 2*. Frontier Psychiatrist was in the lead after a lovely dressage test but a spooky moment on the cross country course dropped them to tenth place. Will and Ruban Son were 3rd. 4 Main Event Photography Specialist Equestrian Photography Visit us at www.maineventphotography.com.au to see all the images taken at recent events. 3 4 42
