1 2 Tamworth - March 24-25, 2012 - certainly worth the drive It must have been a nice feeling for the Tamworth International Eventing committee to be running their first event at the AELEC venue after spending a couple of years running their event at Quirindi (many thanks to the Quirindi committee). There had been a lot of talk about this stunning facility and now it was the turn of the eventers to try it out. New Zealand course designer, Tich Massey, was responsible for the brand new cross country course. The planning for this event began several years ago when Sharmayne Spencer, who had recently moved to the Tamworth area, thought it made perfect sense to run an event at AELEC. After speaking to the people at AELEC, including operations manager Mike Rowland, things started to fall into place and Mike said at the event “It’s very exciting that we are now able to host eventing competitions at AELEC, as we can now cater for all Olympic disciplines at the venue, which adds to its appeal and status.” The MCP Earthmoving CIC3* is sure to grow from the eleven entries they received this year. This year’s numbers were probably due to several factors, not least that several of the countries top Olympic bound hopefuls were giving their horses some time off when they didn’t make the trip to London. That said John Twomey and Highly Recommended were worthy winners adding just 5.2 time penalties from cross country to their seventh placed dressage score. John was one of only two riders to go clear in the show jumping phase, which took place in the magnificent indoor arena at AELEC. The other rider was Belinda Isbister and Holy Bruce who finished in second place with dressage leader Keira Byrnes, riding Foxhill, third. 1) PN Natalya Bretherton on Impressive Kitty 2) 1 star Emma Hindmarsh on Southern Cross Nova 3) Keira Byrnes on Fox Hill in the 3 star class 4) John Twomey on Wade Equine Highly Recommended winner of MCP Earthmoving CIC3* class 5) EvA95cm – Natalya Bretherton and Dressed in a Rush Images by ESJ Photo 3 4 5v 41
