1 2 “The best girl won on the day,” said Shane. “My horse is still really green at this level I’m still pretty pleased to be finishing third.” And when asked how he manages to run an event, ride horses and have some time to be a ‘new’ dad he replied “I have a great team behind me who help me with all the different parts of my life and I couldn’t do this without them all. So a huge thank you has to go to all those people. I think the event has been a great success and now we look at how we can make it even better next year.” The Horseland CIC2* attracted a field of 40 starters with well known riders competing against some relatively unknown names. The overall winner, Belinda Isbister, is a rider that would fall into the latter category. Christine Bates and Corambo produced the best test of the CIC2* class scoring a 44.4, but she was closely followed by Shane Rose and Virgil on 45. Unlike the CIC3* class the CIC2* class show jumped before they went cross country and as it turned out it was penalties from show jumping that would make the difference at the end of the day. Belinda Isbister was one of only seven riders to go clear over John Vallance’s course, which put her in the lead by the tiniest of margins going into the cross country phase. Both Christine and Shane took a rail down each, which left them second and third respectively. The CIC* was split into two sections. In the Horse and Rider Shop CIC* dressage leader Rachel Lee held onto her lead throughout the weekend adding nothing to her dressage score of 43.8 to win ahead of Hayley Frielick and My Happiness. Nikki Richardson slipped back a place from second after dressage to finish third on Rudolf. In the Equitak Excel section it was a similar story but this time it was George Sheridan who led from the start on board Just An Ace. George’s dressage score of 47.5 was far enough ahead of the rest of the class that event two show jump rails down didn’t matter to the final outcome. The pre novice or EvA105 class was split into four sections, with the new concept of rider status and horse status classes. The idea was to separate divisions by the current level of the rider or the level of the horse along with offering open classes. In the EvA105 class this led to two open sections: The Highland Drilling EvA105 won by Heath Ryan and Aspire R and the Equestrian Australia EvA105 won by Cassie Lowe riding Koko Bean. The Camden Valley Inn Champions Horse EvA105 section where none of the horses entered had competed above pre novice level gave Cassie Lowe her second win of the weekend, this time on board Koko Doro. Kirby Delamont riding Topper II, who was bought out of New Zealand from Joanne Bridgeman, won the Agnes Banks Equine Clinic Junior EvA105 leading from start to finish. Tim Boland, riding Dynamic, won the Peppercorn Park Picton Open EvA95 (preliminary) class finishing on his second placed dressage score of 47.4. Dressage leader Christine Bates gave Tim the win when she had a rail down in the showjumping with Double Vision. In the Galahad Group Champion Horse EvA 95 Charlie Brister wasn’t content just to win the class with Mystery Mark but he also took home second prize with Pure Drama. Both horses went clear cross country and show jumping with Mystery Mark adding just two time penalites from show jumping to his dressage score of 46.2. The prelimary cross country course caused quite a few problems with only seven riders in the 21 strong Musto Champion Rider EvA95 field going clear, and only one of them, the eventual winner Sandie Baggett, riding Jackpot, going clear and under time. Lucy Mortlock and Legan Miss led the Elandra Homes Champion Junior EvA95 from start to finish. 1) Charlie Brister and Mystery Mark winners of the EvA95cm class at Equestriad 2) Kelsely Szczepanik on Rayneck Apache Cat in Equestriad’s EvA80cm class 3) Winner of the Sydney 3DE CCI 3* class Shane Rose and Taurus 4) Shaun Dillon and Allmac Reglance in CIC** class 5) Winners of the CIC** class Robert Palm and Koko Black 6) Megan Jones and Kirby Park Irish Expresswinners of the CIC* class at Sydney 3DE Images by Main Event Photography 38
