1 2 Then the CIC3* started and the first ‘excitement’ (although not the best kind of excitement) was when I saw Tim Boland’s horse, GV Billy Elliot, heading for home by himself. Next I saw Charlie Brister’s horse, Barrel of Fun, cleverly stay on his feet after catching a leg in the gate fence. He continued on, never missing a beat and jumped clear round the rest of the course. Stuart Tinney, on Pluto Mio, made the water jump look like a newcomers combination while Andrew Cooper was another who stood out, as he rode in and out of the water with a look of sheer determination on his face. It was really great seeing John Twomey out again. Every time I watch him ride I get the feeling he really loves his horses and this sport. In the CIC2* things ran pretty smoothly and the last class to go cross country, the preliminary, was fairly uneventful with all the horses I saw running through the water with no problems and pulling up well at the end of the course. It’s great to see so many riders understand that fitness is such a vital part of our sport and our horses. At the end of the day after an exciting show jumping phase for the CIC3* Shane won the class on a score of 51.10 penalties on AHP Moritz. Emma Mason was second on F1 Pharinelli with one rail in the show jumping and a penalty score of 53.00 and third place went to Stuart Tinney on Pluto Mio with no jumping penalties on a score of 57.60 All in all, it was a wonderful weekend and I can’t wait until next year! Editors note: (Kelsey forgot to mention that as well as enjoying Albury she also managed to pick up a second rosette in the Equiscape Newcomers Junior class riding Allengreen Gift - Congratulations Kelsey) Mt Arthur Coal Scone Horse Trials - March 10-11, 2012 The Mt Arthur Coal Scone Horse Trials were held on 10th and 11th March 2012 in glorious sunshine and fabulous conditions, despite torrential rainfall in other areas of the state the previous week. The event boasted over 470 entries and held 15 classes with the Mt Arthur Coal CNC3* class won by Shane Rose and Taurus. In a touch of history, the leader board this year was identical to 2011, with Shane once again beating Emma Mason and F1 Pharinelli and Craig Barrett, this time on Sandhills Brilliare. Shane also won the Robson Civil Projects CNC2* on Virgil, beating Queenslander Kevin McNab on Kelecyn Cognac and local combination Nikki Richardson and Knightrider. This combination looked very brave around a big cross country track and show jumped clear, thoroughly deserving their pleasing result. Proving what a force he is in Australian eventing, Shane also won the Marsh Carney Saddlery CNC*A class aboard Shanghai Joe in front of Hamish Cargill (Starburst) and Jennifer Kinsella (Jimmy O’Reilly). The Scone Equine Hospital CNC* B class was won by Mattea Davidson riding Fairbanks Elle, ahead of Kevin McNab (Montango) and Shaun Dillon (Glenayr Flash). Local rider, Victoria Farr, produced good results in the 1*class when riding Restless they finished eighth in open company and the best placed Junior rider by a considerable margin. The pre novice class saw some very professional riding from Natalya Bretherton aboard the paint-bred mare Impressive Kitty, who placed second in the Pre Novice A between eventing royalty like Stuart Tinney, the class winner and third place, Heath Ryan. In the Pre Novice B local riders, Blair Richardson riding the lovely My Special Obsession was fourth and Michelle Carney and Kakoda were seventh. Both riders were very pleased with their performances. Serena White of Belltrees riding Glenugie Maverick, very narrowly beat Michelle, this time riding Joey in the preliminary B class. In fact, the scores were level throughout the event and the winner decided by Serena being a mere six seconds closer to optimum time on cross country! A huge thank you to our hardworking committee, the wonderful assistance received from our sponsors and all those people who answered the call for volunteers - you all helped to make the event such a huge success! 1) Scone CNC** Stuart Tinney and Pluto Mio 2) Brigitte Thomas on Lulu Lemon in the EV80 3) Craig Barrett, Wendela Jaime, CCI 3* at Melbourne 3DE 4) Mattea Davidson and Fairbanks Cargo winners of CCI** class at Melbourne 3DE 5) Sophie Adams and Mercator Du Ry in the CCI** class at Melbourne 3DE Images by Main Event Photography and The Eventer 34
