Carriage Driving has certainly had a year of growth in 2012 with Boyd Exell once again raising the bar on the international stage with unbeatable performances in all arenas. Boyd’s success, horsemanship and performance has definitely had a flow on effect to our Australian drivers, giving all driving equestrians a renewed passion and determination in taking this fast growing discipline to a new level here in Australia. We now have seven Australian carriage drivers competing overseas on a regular basis, and this number will continue to grow in the coming years. Equestrian Australia High Performance Programme The instigation of the Carriage Driving High Performance Programme as part of the EA National High Performance Programme during 2012 has been exciting and innovating. Three talent identification days were held during the winter of 2012 (Qld, SA and NSW), with the talent ID day in Holbrook NSW attracting the most nominees. This day was held at Ross and Miriam Carbery’s fabulous property near Holbrook NSW where dedicated and keen drivers travelled from all over NSW to audition for the selectors. Across Australia, nineteen drivers were selected for the High Performance Future Squad, with an additional six drivers nominated on the A Squad. 1 2 26
