1 2 3 4 2012 New South Wales Dressage Championships – August 31 - September 2, 2012 It was all systems go for the NSW State Dressage Championships held at SIEC, August 31st through to Sunday 2nd September 2012. The weather was extremely kind to everyone and horses and riders were at their best for this prestigious event. To achieve selection for this event means being ranked in the top 35 horse/rider combinations in the state. It’s a goal set by many aspiring riders to test their progress and training against the other high achievers. It also features the freestyle events and young horse classes supporting the breeders of Australian dressage horses for the future. It is always exciting to be involved in this event which encourages easy camaraderie between judges, riders, stewards, writers and officials. The judges traditionally come from all over NSW and this year we also had Mrs Julie Peterson-Smith from Queensland and Mr Mura Love from New Zealand. The sponsors in particular need to be recognized and thanked for their invaluable support of the Championships. Birds Equisport, Brighton Saddlery, Equestrian NSW, Gow-Gates, Horsezone, International Animal Health, Mitavite, Mulawa, NSW Institute of Sport, Peter Horobin, Ray White Acreage, Wild Oats and of course The Della Robertson Trophy. In the preliminary tests, sponsored by Brighton Saddlery and Mitavite, Sally Hallis on Highland Christmas and Courtney Larard on Mindarah Park Ravenna traded places in the 1C and 1D with Courtney Larard marginally ahead for the Champion Preliminary rider. Novice riders were seriously challenged by Judy Dierks on Highlight who took out 1st place in both the 2C and 2D and subsequent Novice Champion. Peta Cormak on Jaybee Allstar leading the challenge for the Reserve Champion. The sponsor for the novice tests was Birds Equisports which is managed by Camilla Palmer, a successful competitor at this event in her own right. Katina Smith on her horse Just Dance scored a narrow victory over Rodney Martin on the very flash SS Sonata Hit in the race for the Elementary Champion and Reserve. Ray White Acreage sponsored these two competitions. Not to be outdone, Rodney Martin and SS Sonata Hit went on to become Medium Champions with Heath Ryan on Figo Delux just beating Rodney by less than 1% on his other mount, SS Rob Roy, for Reserve Champion. The two competitions were sponsored by Peter Horobin and International Animal Health. Mulawa Performance were delighted when Lesley Ann Taylor had an outstanding result with Amicelli Gold, securing the Advanced Champion, very closely followed by Heath Ryan on Johnny Depp for Reserve. Amicelli Gold also won the Wild Oats Prix St George again just nudging out Johnny Depp. 5 14
