Vaulting NSW Committee 2012 In February this year Equestrian NSW announced the five committee members for the newly formed Vaulting NSW and we would like to thank Wendy Cohen for the professional manner in which this was conducted and for the implementation of the new structure on our behalf. The committee, consisting of Jenny Denby, Sarah Venamore, Kerri Wilson, Kerrie Stapleton and Lyn Lynch, brings together a wealth of knowledge and experience from not only vaulting but several other equestrian disciplines and a variety of industry backgrounds. Combined with a strong passion for vaulting, the committee has diligently addressed all aspects of our sport within NSW whilst developing the new strategic direction for the discipline. In a facilitated planning session the committee identified the mission for VNSW for the next five years. As a result the goals, which align with EA’s strategic priorities, ensure that a focus for each major stakeholder in the sport is addressed. This includes management of the sport, identifying and developing pathways for NSW vaulters, officials and coaches and paying particular attention to increasing participation. The mission for VNSW is “to promote a vibrant vaulting sport that increases participation and creates opportunities for its community to fulfill life aspirations, supported by a professional and ethical organisation dedicated to horse and athlete welfare.” Our goals are: • To develop a rewarding culture for all participants to enjoy • To create fundamentals for vaulting • To facilitate horse and athlete welfare • To foster an innovative learning environment and proactive leadership We look forward to continuing to foster a positive environment for all of our athletes and horses in 2013, and would like to thank Equestrian NSW for their continued support of Vaulting in NSW. VNSW Committee Competitions 2012 Interschools Championships Once again vaulting was invited to participate in the annual ENSW Interschools Championships held at SIEC over the week-end of 1st to 4th March 2012. Vaulting was allocated the Saturday time spot. Late in 2011 VNSW decided it would include classes for novices in the 2012 interschools for the first time, with the idea of encouraging young riders who participate in the other disciplines to also ‘try’ vaulting, not only to improve their riding skills but to possibly increase vaulting numbers. These classes were designed especially for beginner vaulters. We had a total of six young people, four were equestrians, two of whom had attended a vaulting clinic, but none had competed before and two total beginners. Three of the vaulters used their own horses. These vaulters were assisted with their training by Lyn Lynch who also provided ‘horse spots’ for the beginners. We had 32 vaulters competing from as far afield as Southern Highlands, Bathurst, Scone, Hunter Valley and the South Coast. The overall winners were: Champion Vaulter – Jarrod Boyle from Scone Grammar Reserve Champion Vaulter – Nicole Collett from Colo High School. Champion Horse – Special Event from Sydney Vaulting Group Scone Vaulting Competition May, 2012 The Scone Horse Festival Vaulting Competition, for the second year, was an even bigger success than the first, if you could imagine that. 70 competitors, and their horses came from all over the state and Queensland to attend this “not to be missed” event. Most horses, competitors and support crew camped at “Dunsinane”, Scone, the home of Robyn and Allan Boyle, their five sons and the Scone Equestrian Centre and Vaulting Team. 1) NEqC’s Holly McGuiness at Nationals 2) Equiste’s Kayla Brewer at Nationals on Special Event 3) Sarah Grayson at National Championships Images by Gillian Burns Inset images by Christoph Bricot and Daniel Kaiser 1 104
