We then watched the Small Show Hunter Pony Championship, which we dubbed the little ‘zoomas’ after seeing how some of them could gallop. Raleigh Toy Soldier and Fencourt Just a Rascal did us proud. Intermediate Rider 16 – 17 years was the next class up and we were represented by Aiyana Levin and Annabel Mulready. Both riders rode beautifully and for the second year in a row, Annabel took out the national title. What a remarkable effort. By this time the sun had gone down and the arena was packed. The final event, being the Open Small Galloway was before us. The noise had reached fever pitch and the competitors music had to be turned up to nightclub levels just to be heard. I’m not sure how the riders kept their horses focused. We were again very well represented with two of the best small galloways in the country being AP Wizardry (“Spider”) and Willowcroft Coco Chanel who both looked as good as I’ve ever seen them. Spider was breathtaking to watch and had it not been for a little spook at the end of the arena would have been hard to beat. Mark Kenzig rode Coco Chanel with the polish and precision for which Mark is synonymous and at the conclusion of his ride, we knew that team NSW was in with another chance. Again not disappointed, Willlowcroft Coco Chanel was awarded the Runner Up National Small Galloway for 2012 and the winner went to Victoria’s nomination Hollys Galaxy, a horse that I wanted to pack in my suitcase! Day two commenced with the Intermediate Rider 13 – 15 year Championship where we were represented by Indya Povey and Billie McEvoy. Both girls did a sterling job. After watching both of these girls ride, you know they have a huge future ahead of them. Show Hunter Galloway was the next class where we were represented by Bayview Crown Prince, nominated by Sue Peters and Lizzie Howard’s nomination HV Radiance. Both horses worked beautifully. Lizzie’s horse wowed the crowd with her workout and the judges felt the same way. Runner Up National Show Hunter Galloway for 2012 HV Radiance. Congratulations Lizzie! The Senior Rider Class was next and I may be bias but I do believe NSW have the best riders in the country. We were ably represented here by Bridget Sell who rode Alkyra Elegance beautifully and Angela Rodham, who totally blew them away. I would have been more than happy to watch Angela ride for 30 minutes rather than two because it was so amazing to watch. Another national title to Angela Rodham and Team NSW. Congratulations to both girls on an amazing job. Large Galloway was the next class up and again the competition was fierce. When Mark rode Calvin Park Dark Knight through his workout they showed nothing but class and quality. Jess then came out on the Pavia family’s nomination Double TT Evita and smashed the workout. I loved the end of Jess’s ride when she rode past the crowd fist pumping to stir up the applause. It was awesome. Another double with Calvin Park Dark Knight taking out the title and runner up going to Double Tt Evita. Well done team! Small Show Hunter Hack nomination was the Orford family’s W.E.S Merlin. Bree did brilliant job getting him around in a tough field. 1) Saddlehorse Horse of the Year Calvin Park Dark Knight 2) Champion Small Show Hunter WES Merlin ridden by Bree Orford 3) Lemracs Eclipse and Francene Treneman Top 10 Open Small Hack 4) SLM Stepn Out and Sarah Adams Champion Large Hack Images by Angie Rickard Photography and SWD Images 1 100
