1 2 3 Sydney Royal 24 year old Julia Hargreaves won the 2011 Sydney Royal Easter Show Grand Prix Sweepstakes World Cup Qualifier riding her lovely imported nine year old gelding Vedor. For Julia, the 2007 Australian Young Rider of the Year, it was her second career World Cup Qualifier victory and the first win for Vedor who was the 2009 seven year old champion at the World Young Horse Championships in France. Sydney Olympic course designer John Vallance designed the course for the 22 starters, his careful 1.40m to 1.60m course saw just Hargreaves leave all the rails intact adding a time penalty in round 1 and 2 to win the $10,000 class on 2 penalties. Billy Raymont was the runner up finishing with 8 penalties just two hundredths of a second faster than Jamie Kermond riding Cothaga owned by the Cox Family. Brett Warren was fourth riding Cheezy Z on 16 penalties just ahead of Vicki Roycroft riding Kartoon De Breve. Kermond then filled sixth 4 position riding the lovely grey stallion Valhalla, owned by Des Russell. The Royal Easter Show Mini Prix saw a win to David The Junior and Young Rider jumping competitions also Cameron riding Explore from Andrew Inglis riding Amira. ran with Teegan Chester, daughter for Sydney 2000 Russell Johnston jumped 1.68m to win the Six Bars Olympian Gavin, won the Junior Table C riding Ellesmere Jumping riding Borealis Centurion. Vicki Roycroft’s Derilyn, Jessica Knox won the Table A class riding Night Kartoon De Breve was the leading Section 1 horse after Wish and Teegan Ashby was the runner up in the first placing in all four classes. Amanda Madigan’s lovely mare two classes riding Rockingham No Reason. James Arkins Oaks Altes was the leading Section 2 horse and Jamie won the Young Rider Table C riding Dreamtime Invador Kermond’s BWS Lincoln was the best Section 3 horse of and Nicholas Sheehan won the Table A class riding the show. Bonaventure. The Junior and Young Rider Six Bars contest was won by Stephanie MacKillop riding Alcheringa Young gun Tom McDermott continued his excellent form Tradition from Ben Blay riding Ryles. to be declared the Most Successful Jumping Rider of the Show after he won three classes and placed in another Beijing Olympic Silver medallist Shane Rose won the four classes – an amazing effort for the 17 year old inaugural exhibition eventing class riding APH Moritz – the student from Wagga Wagga. large crowd cheering the eventing riders to go faster as they raced around the course of portable cross country fences strategically placed around the main arena. 5 Jenny Shepherd 1) Best Performed Jumping Horse of the Show, Kartoon De Breve ridden by Vicki Roycroft 2) Tom McDermott with a stunningly fast, clear round on CP Rolex 3) Julia Hargreaves and Vedor 4) Oaks Sporthorses was well represented at the Sydney Royal with Hilary Scott awarded Miss Showgirl for 2011 and Oakes Altes, ridden by Amanda Madigan, was awarded the Best Performed Horse in Group A Section 2 5) Vicki Roycroft and Welsom Photos: Furdography 64
