1 2 3 2011 NSW Dressage Championships The 2011 NSW Dressage Championships was for the third year in a row run at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC), a state of the art equestrian facility located in the major regional hub of Tamworth in North Western NSW. A small local committee ran the event on behalf of Dressage NSW. Although the weather turned on a testing challenge for event organisers and competitors over the 4 days of competition the event ran smoothly and the arenas held up well to the cold and wet conditions. 4 From September 8-11, Tamworth became the place to be for the serious dressage rider with a total of 180 horses competing in 20 individual competitions from Preliminary level through to the Grand Prix. Along with many travelling NSW competitors there was a strong contingent from Queensland who love coming to Tamworth rather than making the long trek further south to Sydney to participate at this level. The championships showcased some of the finest dressage horseflesh in the country with NSW horses and competitors showing great depth to take out 11 of the 12 championships on offer. Notable dual achievers were GV Bullwinkle with Rozzie Ryan who took out the Grand Prix, Grand Prix Freestyle and the Grand Prix Special Championships competitions while in the lower levels Bradgate Park Jatzz ridden by Dave McKinnon out-classed fields at Novice and Elementary to take out both championships. As with most major equestrian events held in the regions attention received from media was prolific with daily reports in local and regional newspapers, ABC and regional radio and nightly reports on NBN and Prime News television. A special thank you to all volunteers many who travelled to Tamworth from regional clubs to assist over the weekend. In 2012 the Championships move back to SIEC but hopefully will return one day to the wonderful facility in Tamworth. 5 1) Brett Parbery – Advanced Champion 2) Glenda de Wit – Prelim Champion 3) David McKinnon – Novice Champ and Cassia Montgomery – Reserve Champ 4) AELEC Warm Up 5) Jenny Gehrke and Fairbanks Jazztime Photos: Toni Venhaus 15
