3 4 Albury CIC - April At Albury 2009 I stood watching a very sad Christopher The CIC1* was a bit of repeat performance as Chris led Burton as he sat in the stable with his top horse the dressage again, this time riding Tina Stafford’s and ‘Newsprint’ who had injured himself cross country. Albury his own Kinnordy Rivaldo. But in this class Chris added had not been a happy event for Chris. What a difference a nothing to that dressage score of 41.3 and won the class year makes ... ahead of Shane Rose riding Star Am I who also finished on his dressage score. Christopher Burton hit the jackpot at Albury 2010 where he not only won the CIC3* in fine style but also took out Riders in the lower classes also clocked up some great the top prizes in both the CIC2* and CIC1*. He came results including Alex Aldana on Red Hot Bandit who won very close to leading all three classes after the dressage an introductory section on their dressage score of 46.8. but Heath Ryan robbed him of that achievement when he led the CIC3* with Mystery Whisper on a dressage score of 41.4 and Chris had to be content to sit in second on 43.2. But when Heath picked up 20 penalties cross country Chris slipped into the lead riding Jean Findlay’s Holstein Park Leilani collecting just 1.2 time penalties - the second fastest of the class. When it came to show jumping Chris had nearly two rails in hand over Wendy Schaeffer and Koyuna Sun Shine who had jumped a beautifully timed show jumping round to finish on a score of 53.3. However Chris managed to pull off a clear show round with Leilani in a phase that has not always been her strongest but he took it slowly picking up five time penalties. But it still left him with a score good enough to see him emerge from the arena as the well deserved winner of the CIC3*. Meanwhile Emma Mason and F1 Pharinelli picked up third place and Shane Rose and Taurus, the only combination to finish on their dressage score, finished fourth. In the CIC2* Chris Burton never looked liked giving his winning dressage position to anyone throughout the whole weekend. Riding Allan Skinner’s Haruzac he jumped a clear show jumping round and added only 3.2 time penalties from cross country to his dressage score of 43.3. Haruzac is showing all the potential to be a top horse and has only once been out of the top three since May 2009. During that time he has clocked up three pre novice wins, three 1* wins and Albury made a total of two 2* wins. Chris will now aim Haruzac for a CCI2* later this year. 5 27
