Advantages „ Excellent low temperature performance „ Remains flexible „ Non corrosive „ Odourless „ Non-tainting „ Easy to apply Description Coolroom Mastic is a permanently plastic sealing compound, formulated from a blend of resins, fillers, pigments and surface-active agents, diluted with a virtually odourless hydrocarbon solvent. After the solvent has fully evaporated, Coolroom Mastic is odourless, water resistant, imparts no taint to food products and is compatible with all metals and coating systems likely to be encountered in refrigeration and coolroom applications. Coolroom Mastic will not stain materials used in refrigeration assemblies. Materials tested include porcelain enamel, anodised aluminium, ethyl cellulose, white synthetic enamel, white polystyrene, etc. Coolroom Mastic like any non-skinning mastic, is not designed for use in joints directly exposed to the weather, nor for use in continually moving joints. Design Criteria Coolroom Mastic is used to seal butt joints between adjacent panels in thermally insulated structures. The permanently plastic nature of Coolroom Mastic ensures sealant will tolerate normal movements or vibrations between components. Well designed coolrooms and similar structures have only minor differential movement between panels, thereby avoiding continuous cyclic movement which could ‘pump’mastic sealants from joints. Properties Data quoted are typical for this product but do not constitute a specification Form: Easy applied, non-slump paste Colour: White Physical or Solvent loss chemical change: Application temperature: 5°C - 40°C Service temperature: Minus 30°C to 50°C. Will not harden or embrittle in air @ 65°C for 72 hours Water resistance: No component separation after water immersion at 20°C for 72 hours Corrosion: No corrosion of aluminium, copper or steel after 1000 hours at 40°C, 100% relative humidity Application Instructions Preparation Surfaces should be clean and dry, free from any dust, oil, grease or other contamination. Coolroom Mastic is applied to one surface then components combined and fixed. Allow sufficient time for solvent to evaporate before putting assembly into service. It is advisable to test first under normal use conditions to determine suitability for a specific application. Application The non-skinning nature of Coolroom Mastic allows long open times between application of sealant and combination of components, provided the sealant is fully protected from any exposure to airborne dirt or dust. Finished assemblies should have all sealant surfaces protected to eliminate dirt pick-up. Cleaning Most organic solvents may be used to clean up excess sealant, or to clean equipment etc. Suitable solvents include Solvent 10 and mineral turpentine. Where polystyrene foam insulation may be contacted only use a clean soft cloth and ensure no aromatic solvents come in contact with the foam. Fosroc® Coolroom Mastic December 2009
