Hilastic 66 contains a fungicide additive and is resistant to mould and fungus growth making the product particularly well suited to use in kitchens, bathrooms and other damp areas. Technical Support Parchem offers a technical support package to specifiers and contractors which includes on-site, technical advice from staff experienced in the construction industry. Design Criteria Joint design: Moving joints should be designed and sited to minimise stresses imposed on the joint sealant. „ Minimum sealant depth of 5 mm at any point „ Bonding depth of 5 - 15 mm when applied to sound non-porous surfaces „ Bonding depth 10 - 15 mm when applied to sound porous surfaces „ Sealant depth of 20 - 25 mm in joints subject to hydrostatic pressure „ Within the above minimum depth criteria, optimum design is 2:1 width:depth ratio Bond breakers and joint fillers: For moving joints, sealant should not be allowed to bond to back of joint - to prevent this apply a polyethylene bond breaker tape. Properties The data quoted are typical for this product, but do not constitute a specification. Form: Non slump thixotropic paste Colour: White. Other colours to special order Physical or chemical change: Chemical cure (non-acid) Application temperature: Minimum 5°C Service temperature: Minus 50°C - 150°C Tooling time: Up to 10 minutes Hardness: 20 - 25 Shore A° Cure rate: Approx. 2 mm/day at 25°C, 50% R.H. Movement accommodation factor: Maximum 50% total joint movement (± 25%) Chemical resistance to occasional spillage: Resistant to dilute acids and alkalis. Not resistant to organic solvents Application Instructions Joint preparation Ensure that any anticipated joint movement is less than ±25% of the joint width at the time of sealing. Joint faces must be sound and completely dry, clean and frost free. Oil, grease, etc. may be removed using Solvent 10. Ideally, sealants should be applied directly onto substrate. If it is desirable to apply sealants onto paints or other renewable surface coatings it is recommended that proposed system be carefully tested to ensure properties of either material are not affected by long-term contact. Priming Hilastic 66 has excellent adhesion to most building surfaces without use of a primer. For optimum results, particularly with moving joints, priming is always recommended.
